For the past few years I have taught private individuals and group workshops at Process Studios, Edinburgh Council Adult Education Program and Remade in Edinburgh whilst setting up VM Furnishing and achieving the following;
Until recently I taught bi-monthly upholstery/upcycling workshops with Remade in Edinburgh at the Remakery on Leith Walk, I sell upcycled furniture in their wonderful shop.
Last year, Wednesday afternoons then Thursday nights were spent teaching a free upcycling workshop at WHALE Arts Agency as part of their climate change program in Wester Hailes.
I have concluded all external teaching to concentrate on my own creations.
Weekday and evening classes are 2 hours each rolling in 8-week blocks, one in one out, call for availability. £160
Tuesday 10:00 - 12:00
Wednesday 18:30 - 20:30
Thursday 18:30 - 20:30
I am aiming these classes more toward beginners as they are slightly shorter, I feel weeknights can get tiring past 2 hours. I would suggest a dining chair or footstool for beginners but more complicated projects are not a problem if you don't want to commit to Saturdays. With a small class, in this time, we should be able to finish a simple traditional overstuffed dining chair or 2 small modern projects. The workshop is equipped for restoration and painting as necessary as well as making simple footstools from scratch with all traditional and modern upholstery tools provided. I usually have a selection of chair skeletons for sale if you don't have your own. All classes are initially available in blocks of 8. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information, I have included a download of detailed notes for a traditional drop in and overstuffed dining chair below so you know what you're getting into, scanning the pictures will give you an idea.
Saturday class is 3 hours running from 14:00 to 17:00 rolling in 8 week blocks, call for availability. £240
I am aiming this longer class toward students with more complicated or time-consuming pieces. However beginners are welcome, see Wednesday description as the same applies. All classes are initially available in blocks of 8. Please email email@example.com for further information.
I am flexible about times, days (evenings and weekends are possible too) and length of classes, and happy to discuss any kind of project whether it is modern or traditional upholstery or furniture upcycling. Private tuition is £30 per hour per person. Please get in contact via the home page or email firstname.lastname@example.org
VM now works with a small group of like-minded individuals to host events and demos covering modern and traditional upholstery, furniture repair and restoration as well as interior and graphic design. We are open to suggestion as to the size and focus of the event and can provide all tools and equipment. Past events have included day-long workshops and taster sessions where participants can book in for hour-long group sessions to get a feel for the tools and materials. Feel free to get in contact to discuss any ideas. email@example.com
This gift can give the recipient a practical skill to use over and over again or simply a taster session to see if it's something they would like to try. You can buy as many hours as you like or a minimum of two, I don't feel one is enough to take away much useful information. The amount that can be achieved in a set time depends on the student and what they want to work on. One to one, a basic traditional overstuffed dining chair can usually be done in six to eight hours by a complete beginner. A modern dining chair is considerably less. I will discuss beforehand the suitability of the students chosen piece and can provide something to work on for tasters. All necessary materials for takeaway projects can be purchased here at trade price. One to one tuition is £30 an hour, to be paid in advance, for gift vouchers with no expiry date. I am very flexible with times and dates and will always endeavour to accommodate. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a voucher
